latest obsession – crochet

mollie makes

July issue of Mollie Makes

First of all, I would like to say that this magazine is sooo expensive in Singapore (Just like COEs). But I loved the previous issue so much I told myself I needed this one to do further research into crafts and craft related businesses ;)

In the end, I ended up with a new obsession – crochet.

On the cover you see some flowers. They claimed it was easy, but when I found the pattern I was like, who on earth can understand this? It’s like a knitting pattern, where they had abbreviations for everything. It was like a completely different language. And I had no idea what the stitches were. The only thing I could do was a chain. That was something I learnt in Primary school last century.

But I really really wanted to make a flower so I can make hair clips for my girls, so I turned to youtube. After many failed experiments, this one really made it work for me. 5-Petal Crochet Flower by ShopEtsy.

And these were the results. Actually made more than these, I must have made at least ten cuz they take about 5 minutes each. I can whip up two while the small one is napping, or while waiting to pick the big one up from school. But as I am speaking, some of them are on the girl’s heads, around their wrists, being stomped on on the floor…

So they look nothing like the ones on Mollie Makes, but I shall attempt that later. Cuz while on youtube, I got distracted and started making other stuff. Like this - Lace scallop bracelet by Gwen Fisher.

and with most of my obsessions, my wool ball collection has grown.

I love your choice of colours! I hate the local colours you find in these cheapo shops. These are great and so Martha Stewart! Do you use any colour wheels or do you come up with it on your own?

thanks! I just pick out the colors that appeal to me when I go shopping and try to put them together when I get back. sometimes I get inspirations from colors/tones in photos/magazines.
