About Us

Cotton Candy is all about hand made stuff for kids. Stuff that we have made for our kids. One of a kind, unique, and full of love ♥

We are a group of 3 mothers who have known each other since we were teenagers. All 3 of us love to craft but don’t always have the time to. Between us we have 7 kids! Our kids have inspired us to explore new areas in crafting, particularly sewing. Our Home Ec. Teachers would have been proud of us!

As kids we bonded over gossip and music and rehearsals. As adults we bond over gossip, crafting and online shopping. A typical meetup includes tracing patterns from sewing books, or an online shopping spree for fabric!

We hope you like our blog, and do drop us a comment anytime if you are reading, just to let us know what you think!

Just want to say “Hi” all the way from Dubai where we reside at the moment. I don’t know how I stumbled onto this blog but how amazingly wonderful !!! … that you are 3 friends since high school & now, sewing & crafting together & on this pretty blog. I have known my closest friend since 7 years old but funnily we both do not live in the same country. We are both Singaporean but coincidentally, have lived out of Singapore for a very looooog time – from our single days to our married life. She lives in Australia.
I think you are a fan of Japan. Me too & I am truly lucky to have lived there for 5 years – & left with hundreds of metres of Japanese fabrics !!! Yes, you can guess that I love to sew.
Thank you for your lovely posts which I have enjoyed very much. have a good day! – Xue

Hi Xue, Thanks for dropping by :) I’ve heard alot about Dubai but have not been there yet. How’s the crafting scene there? :) And you were so lucky to have lived there for 5 years? hundreds of metres of fabrics????? dream come true!!!!

        Hi Yifarn,
Thank you for visiting my blog. I haven’t update in quite a while! When I clicked on “yifarn” in the comment email, I do not get your email details so I came back here.
Our Tokyo house is not atypical of a Japanese house. We were just very, very lucky to have found in a spacious home while there – it has a fireplace too & I have my own sewing room in there as well ! If we were living in Singapore, I might not have such a big home since everything is so costly in Singapore. I only started sewing (when we lived in Tokyo so it was the best place to start since (as you would agree) Japanese fabrics & notions are possibly the best anywhere! So I started stocking up on everything as I know we would have to leave there again, one day.
In Dubai, there are sadly only 2 proper sewing/quilting shops. Pretty expensive too. There is supposed to be an area like Arab street but I have not been there. I am addicted to fabrics. My present stash would mean a couple of years sewing at home, without buying more – but who can do that ! Probably you have better & more shops in Singapore.
Yifarn (is that your name or a complilation of you three?), if/when you do write back, will you enclose your email address. If you prefer not to, it’s ok. Happy day! – Xue

Hihi. Glad I chanced upon your lovely site! I am also a fan of Michael Miller fabrics, but it is quite difficult to get them in Singapore, and when they are sold here, super expensive. Do you order directly from overseas? Would really appreciate if you can share how to go about ordering it and the shipping charges.

    Thanks in advance!

      Hi Sally,
I get most of my fabrics from fabric.com! The customer service is great and you can always find a coupon code to get discounts. The shipping is very fast as well. Will drop you an email with more details :)

Hi, I really love this blog. So warm and sweet to be able to sew for your kids! May I ask where did you all learn your sewing? Or is it self taught?

Hi Nic, Thanks! I actually picked it up from books and the internet. Lots of tutorials and youtube videos out there, plus good diagrams in books. It is possible!

Thanks for the reply! I always thought have to attend course to learn sewing. You gals are amazing to self taught. May I ask if there is any books or videos you can recommend for beginners?

Hi Nic, I really just started with a cheap sewing machine (the cheapest Brother machine) because I wasn’t sure if I would stick to the hobby. But it was good enough for a beginner. Then I bought some books that taught the basic techniques with lots of step by step photographs. This was one of my first books – http://www.amazon.com/The-Complete-Book-Sewing-Edition/dp/0789496585

If there is a specific technique I needed further clarification, I would google for it. Usually there will be lots of tutorial links and youtube videos for each technique. And the rest is really just practice! Don’t give up and you will get better as you practice!
